Luke Menzies PCC, CPQC, CertPsychCoach
Lawyer/entrepreneur
I enjoy working with a wide range of people and I welcome new experiences. The people I often work with tend to fall into three groups:
Business leaders/owners and entrepreneurs
Professionals (lawyers, doctors, psychologists, accountants, HR, etc.)
People seeking personal/life coaching and self-development
For more information on how I help these kinds of client, read on…
I often work with CEOs, leaders, executives and entrepreneurs, supporting them to improve their approach to their work, relationships and teams. I bring to this work my extensive experience of running a successful business and leading teams myself. I draw on my knowledge of organisational life, and my understanding of both the highs and lows of business, to help me relate closely to my clients and bring an empathetic understanding.
When working with business leaders, I bring my experience of where developmental focus is likely to be most helpful and productive for both the leader and their organisation. I particularly enjoy helping leaders to maximise their creativity, solve difficult problems and confidently tackle things they felt stuck with.
When working with entrepreneurs, a lot of what I contribute is helping my clients to identify and stick to realistic goals and time-frames. I help them develop key self-management skills, gain confidence and practice coping mechanisms for the tough aspects of going it alone. Above all, I help them develop clarity about their project and critical thinking skills.
Because I always work with you as a whole person, not just as a business person, we may also include non-work areas of your life too, if you wish. My view is that work life and personal life are intertwined, where the same patterns and issues come up in both.
In doing transformative work with professionals such as lawyers, accountants, doctors, psychologists. teachers/educators, coaches and HR professionals, I bring to my work over 25 years of my own professional experience. I have an extensive understanding of professional occupations and am confident that I can quickly come to understand the important aspects of your own work and your professional sphere.
In my experience, skilled professionals bring to their work a particular level of dedication, quality and commitment. But they can also unhelpfully get caught up in perfectionism, overwork and other limiting thought patterns that are often along the lines of ‘But this is just the way it must be done’. Together, we work to realise that there are always other options.
My own success as a professional has involved a lot of thoughtfulness about what I will fight to change, what I must learn to accept, and having the wisdom to know the difference. This can be a very productive place to start in coaching.
If you’re a lawyer, I have a page especially devoted to you.
I very much enjoy working with individuals who wish to make the whole of their current life the subject of our coaching: family, friends, work, health, leisure and whatever else they feel is important - perhaps the whole question of what it means to be a sane, caring, meaningful person in the world we currently live in.
I provide a safe, supportive, encouraging space in which you can explore strong feelings; your hopes and fears; your dreams and concerns. I can help you unlock things you may be stuck with. I can help you bravely tackle things you are avoiding – even things where you feel ‘I can’t even go there’.
Often, I am able to help my clients choose to change a coping mechanism that is no longer serving them well, allowing them to break free from old, ‘stuck’ patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving. This can be truly liberating.
Recent topics I have helped clients with include making a career change, work/life balance, parenting, personal relationships, separation/divorce, starting a business, moving cities/countries and writing a book.
